Like any church, we want to tell you what great things are happening here at Steele Memorial UMC in Barboursville! And I can do that! But I also know that our practice is not always perfectly aligned with our principles.
We are working hard to make changes in our Church culture to lead people to faith in Jesus Christ! A life with Christ is the life for which you are designed! And as Christian believers, it’s so important to take up your journey with spiritual formation. There’s much for us to learn and experience as children of God! God has gone to great lengths – at such a great cost – to reveal who He is and what His hopes are in a relationship with you! Most importantly, our relationship with God is distinctly identified through faith and love! Through love, we receive the mercy and forgiveness from God that allows us to start life anew, a life that is refreshed by a new heart and a new mind that understands how God works within the events and circumstances of our lives. With this understanding, we learn to trust in God, believing that He loves us and is always with us! This new life of godly faith and love moves us to follow Him into the good things He has planned for us from the beginning of time. This process of a curious faith, spiritual growth, and service describes the spiritual journey we believe to be our mission statement – a mission we are shaping so that our community will discover “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen!” (Hebrews 11:1) Os Guinness wrote in Long Journey Home, “Having faith isn’t merely being convinced of something; it is the entire being committed to Someone.” We want you to meet this “Someone,” the irresistible Lover, Savior, and Freedom Fighter who relieves you of sin and fear and death so that you might rejoice in the promise of everlasting life!
